240 starting and overdrive probs. 200

i posted a message and determined it was the o/d relay on my 1989 240 sedan -- i took an identical one out of my 240 wagon also an automatic -- and put it in - started the car -- it squealed and the fuse blew - now what --

as an aside -- the car has lately been finicky about starting -- especially after being driven for a while -- turn it off -- come back -- won't start -

HELP -- i am considering selling it now -- 200,000 miles and counting - andy

andy,

i'd like to help you with the starting problem, but frankly, you have to give us more information than: "turn it off -- come back -- won't start -"

What are the symptoms? Does the engine "turn over"/"crank" but not "start"?

Does it "want" to start? (meaning does it "fire" but not enough to keep running? All of this is important if we are to help you with it.

You might also check the FAQ's for warm restart... I believe there are some helpful hints there too.

Sometimes it is as simple as cleaning the battery terminals and ensuring that your battery is fully charged. If your battery is old or beginning to fail, it may have trouble starting the warm engine.

Good luck,

TomD
