Rear window configurations & car thieves 900

Having recently had my 1995 940 T broken into... in a failed attempt to get anything valuable out of the glovebox, I've been observing the windows of Volvo station wagons.

Interestingly, the 940 and 740 seem to be the only series that comes with that little triangular window in the rear window configuration. I'm guessing this is because the size of the front and rear compartments has been stretched back for more room (compared to the 240 or 850 lines). Hence the rear door shape now overshoots the rear wheel well, disallowing a simple one piece window because there's not enough room for opening downwards.

Anyhow, I'm thinking slack-jawed-trailer-park-yokel obssessive/compulsive car thieves must favor this model... as I'd guess the smaller windows are easier to break open (with less noise) than whacking out one of the major full sized windows.

I'm hoping that once inside, that car thieves would NOT be easily able to start the car by popping the hood and short-wiring it? They'd still have to turn the ignition to the III position, wouldn't they? Still losing a little sleep everytime I think I hear a noise out back.

Nothing personal, they just figured a volvo owner would have good stuff inna glove compartment. 900

Reminds me to empty my glove compartment of good stuff when I park the car anywhere other than my garage or the patrolled garage at work.....

Solution 900

Buy the Volvo glass-breakage sensor and wire it up to one of THESE gizmos! Then sleep soundly.

You may want to consider parking your car outside of your carport.

have none of you see nthe one that shoots poison gas outa the car...knockout or permanant knockout....

of course wiring an insulated metal pad under the door handles to the output of a coil can also be effective (as one citizen over here found out when he forgot to lock the door - so his local police officer decided to open it and lock it for him....OUCH)

Flame thrower! I love it!!

Somehow I don't think it'll pass code here in Seattle... but the imagination involved is first rate. Just imagine if everyone had one in rush hour traffic! Just like something out of a sci-fi movie.

:0)
