Just adopted a 760 turbo from my neighbor. I wondered why she had a chamois in the map pocket. Two days later, on my first long drive, the sweet smell of coolant and copious amounts of fog on the windows- defrost only made it much worse.

Of course I discovered a huge pool of coolant under the newly installed rubber floormats- the kind with edges to keep snow and mud from your shoes off the carpets. In my case, to keep antifreeze on the carpets from damaging your shoes <8^P

With nothing to lose, and $1000 to gain, I went to my local shop and asked for a solution. Mechanic gives me a can of Cooling System Sealer made by BG Products. After two days of driving with the heater on 85 degrees and the windows down, NO MORE DRIPPING!

It's a good thing that I paid next to nothing for this otherwise nice stationwagen. Why in *ell would nordic cars have heaters that fail?
Any one have a longer term fix that doesn't require a teardown of the
innards? I was thinking about sealing the core from the firewall using an industrial sealant, like an epoxy based coating.

This is a short-term patch only. It also has the potential to cause localized corrosion spots in the radiator where stop-leak particles agglomerate. I guarantee that it will fail at the worst possible time, such as during a blizzard in January. Make plans to do a permanent repair.

If you don't need the heater the solution is simple.... remove the heater hoses from the firewall and loop them back through the engine.

Using a sealer has the potential to cause problems.
