Ignition module source? 200 1989

A mechanic friend of mine has an 89 245 in his shop with no ignition.
He suspects a bad module. He's found one but they want $1300 for it!

I told him there might be a better deal. He's willing to get a used one
if it is good. The Bosch number is 0 227 400 146
and the corresponding Volvo number is 3 517 402

Anybody got any good suggestions? I'm not sure I would put a $1300
part in any of my cars! You could buy a diamond for that!

Thanks for any help you can furnish.

Used ones are $25 at the local U-Pull It. Let me know if I can help.

I'm not seeing a 0 227 400 146 on the PartsBin but all other modules were in the $100 range

Try Brian at www.UsedVolvoparts.com. He has lots of 240 parts. No ignition can also be caused by the rpm sensor on the bell housing of this model. Not trying
to second guess him but I have never heard of this ignition computer ever going
bad. The other part that usually goes bad is the power stage mounted on the
front left inner fender. Also www.NewandusedVolvoparts.com may also be helpful.

I know of other places but these should give you a good start. Wish you well.
