Fule Filter replacement 200

OK Stoopid Question no.367. How difficult is it to change out the fuel filter in a 240 88' wagon? For some reason I get the feeling its not a simple task, please clear my muddled mind. As always thanx in advance. ciao Dean

Fule Filter replacement

i did my 89 and 90 this year. neither one had ever had a new filter. i thought it was a pain on the but. mine were under the rear axle. it dripped a little gas but nothing to worry about. nothing a good size rag would't take care of. i was very careful not to get dirt in the lines. i had to take my time and put penetrating oil on bolts. good luck. its not hard but it does take some time. its not like my old chevy where the filter was next to the carb.

not hard job really but I did have to use an impact wrench to get the fuel lines broke loose

If it is the same for an 85 as an 88, it is not very hard. Under the back around the axel area is the filter. A couple of"banjo" fittings and a clamp...away you go. Lots of mess but easy to do

Before you remove the filter fittings it would be best to remove the fuel pump fuses and run the car until it quits. That will reduce the fuel line pressure and less mess. Otherwise an easy job. The filter should come with new copper gaskets.

Fuel Filter replacement 200 1988

LOL! I was just getting ready to do this job this weekend! What a great idea to run the car "dry" to remove most of the fuel!

Here's a (stupid) question: Is there any priming involved after doing this? I wouldn't think so but I gotta ask. (should be just like running out of gas normally, right?)

You can run both pumps briefly (they have their own mind about the time) by switching the key to the "Run" position, then off and on again a few times.

When I changed mine I could not get the banjo fittings loose so I dropped the pan that the filter and pump sits on and removed both.I was then able to take the filter and pump to my work bench and removed the filter.Oh, one more thing if you do it this way you need to crimp the rubber supply hose to the pump with some vice grips to prevent the gas tank from draining on your driveway.
hope this helps
Dave
