Headlight R+R 200 1988

I just picked up a 240 for a very nice price... but it has a few problems.

On the headlight repair, I have a few questions:

What product should I use to polish the clear part of the lenses?

What product should I use to glue the reflector and the lens back together?

Water had gotten into the housing and sat for a long time. The reflector has some of the silvering gone. Is there a paint or something that can restore the silvering, and what is it?

Thanks for any help...

Kerry

The only thing I've found to get the yellow off is oven cleaner. Do not get it on your paint. Either spray it on a rag and apply it, or remove the headlight to the sink or driveway and spray it there. After a minute or so, rinse off. The yellow will come off in a sheet.

Dry everything thoroughly and reattach the lens with clear silicone RTV.
Or not. If it's tight in there and all the trim is present, it'll never fall out. But, umm, we wouldn't drive with a lens that's not attached. Much.

OTOH, the replacement ones from FCP Groton and others are cheaper than you used to be able to get them for. And a lot less than Volvo sells them for.

I have heard of toothpaste, Meguires plastic polish, bleach and more. There is a thin optical plastic coating on the lens and abrading it may not help in the long run. Goop, the adhesive, woks great to glue and seal. leave the reflector alone, it will only get duller if you do anything at all. The best solution is to look in a pick and pull for recently replaced lights.
