Water cooled 1984 240 Turbo........hoses? 200 1984

Seriously,
What does a guy have to do to get hoses that fit his car. Sure, '84's originally came with the oil cooled puppies...but I can't be the only one with a water-cooled 240. Where do I have to go to get the proper lower hoses for a water cooled 240 Turbo?? What do you guys do?

BTW, I think the previous owner jimmy-rigged the hoses with a couple of hose T's and hose clamps.....it's worked thus far....but the hoses are looking a bit scary....

Water cooled 1984 240 Turbo........hoses?

Just call FCP Groton and get all the correct hoses from them...I did when I installed a water cooled onto my '82 242 with all the plumbing bits I scavenged along with the turbo from a factory upgraded 245t. It sounds like your assorted t's and connecting pipes that you think look to be mickey moused aren't...sounds like exactly like what is under my hood. Just tell FCP that you're installing the H2O turbo and you'll be set.

Other than the main large hoses - all the others are readily available bulk sizes. Come take a look under the hood of my 85 245Ti. (same as your 84)

If the hose look scary replace them. Just measure and buy some footage. The only tough fit is the hose that hooks up to the bottom of the coolant expansion tank. Some heating of the hose and wiggle will get it on, nice and tight. (5/8"????) (Also you can buy this one from Volvo for $) The small hoses are....3/8"?????

The water cooling for the turbo is indeed T'd into the existing system. Works fine. Use GOOD hose clamps, not cheapies, fit your local hose/Parker dealer..they sell some nice clamps.

Wait a minute, that sounds like what you have is exactly the correct Volvo kit hook up for the water cooled turbo. I have no idea what is being recommended unless it is the 700 turbo hoses. Those are not hard to find at a salvage yard for a pittance.

What I recommended are the two hoses that were in my car when I bought it. When the water pump died I went to the dealer and told the parts guy that I wanted the hoses that I had on my car (both had Volvo markings on them). The bottom hose is indeed the one used on the 700/900 cars. The top one (radiator - expansion tank - turbo).. I dunno, but it fits just perfectly.

Spend about $130. You want part numbers 6842129-6 ($71 - lower radiator hose) and 3531884 ($57 - goes to the expansion tank and radiator).

Shamless plug: This was one of the first things I put up on my little FAQ http://www.sonic.net/~zipzippy/volvo/

The hoses are available from Volvo. They are really just short pieces of straight coolant hose. Not sure of the size, something like 7/16" or 3/8"?You could probably get excellent hose to use from a racing supplier like Pegasus or Summit.
Measure the inside diameter of the hose that's on there. Then you can order a length of hose. You can cut it to match the lengths on the car. They have elbows and 90 degree bends. All kinds of good products. Happy rolling!
