extra lights 900

Hi,
It's the dark time of the year again and I'm looking how to attach extra lights (round bosch rallyes) that came several years ago with a 240 wagon to my 960. Can I just attach them somehow to the high beam switch?
How can this be done?

Happy rolling :)

Mark

Not sure what 900 series you have, but if your are unfortunate enough to have the 9004 lights, then I applaude your effort to put ANY lights on the road! I've run separate fogs on a 80 245, and these were wired separately from the headlights. Gives you greater flexibility while protecting the integrity of the main light system. Put a toggle in for dash operation.

Hi!

You do not want to simply steal the power of the other relay, as this will run more juice through the relay than it's made to handle.

This will result in a busted relay most likely.. I also guess that none of the lights will run on optimal light power.

How you want to connect the lights, depends if you want a seperate light switch on your dash.

You need 1 or 2 relays, depending on what you want to use as remote power.
You can do either:
steal remote power from the headlights
or:
give remote power from a switch

The reason you need relay for the last part:
If you run 2 x 60w through the light switch, it will most likely melt, which is not so good..

eg. You need relay, to not wear out electronical parts.
They dont cost alot, and they are simple to connect.

The relay has four connectors:
12v+ constant power in
12v+ remote in
12v+ out
- negative earth

The 12v+ constant power in can go straight from the battery.
The 12v+ out goes to the new headlights.
The negative earth goes to the relay, from main lights or somewhere else.
The 12v+ remote in goes first from the battery, then through a switch, and then back to the new headlights.
though, if you wish to run them automatically (not a good idea), you can take remote straight from the other headlights.

Remember: Use fuses! You need fuse on the 12v+ constant power in (from battery to relay).
When choosing fuse: W/V = A
eg. if you run one 60w bulb on one relay: 60W / 12V = 5A
If you run two 60w bulbs on one relay: 60W + 60W / 12V = 10A
