Temp gauge doesn't work right. 140-160

I can't figure out what's wrong.

With the temp gauge hooked up to the temp sending unit, the gauge
doesn't move no matter how hot the motor is (Okay -- I haven't tested
it at red hot). If I put the temp gauge wire against a part of the
motor, the gauge swings into the red. I've replaced the sending
unit with one from a junk yard (don't know if it works or not but
I'll assume it does). I've run a wire from the base of the sending
unit to some other part of the motor to ground it -- no change.
The gas gauge works normally.

CDU, put an ohm meter across the extra sensor you have. You should have high resistance with a cold sensor and low resistance with it hot, something like 30 ohms or so. The gauge is just an ammeter, so a low resistance gives more current flow and a higher needle reading. Be sure to chk. the ground wire from the sensor to ground for a good no resistance connection.
12volts goes through the dash gauge then through the variable resistor (sensor) and then to ground. Tom

Do you have an ohm meter with which you can measure the resistance through the sensor(s). It sounds like you got real unlucky and now own TWO bad sensors.
