240 GLT Strange Noise 200 1987

Can anyone help,

This morning on the way to work my 240 GLT saloon developed a strange noise - which I'll try to explain. It was a bit like a wailing cat (but not a fan belt noise). The noise was intermittent and was speed related rather than engine speed related as dipping the clutch as speed mad no difference to the noise but slowing down did.

My initial thoughts are possible the propshaft centre bearing in the rubber cage?

Any thoughts are would be greatly appreciated.

Your guess is probably accurate. A variety of noises emanate from that rascal, and for fun someone with time on their hands could collect the different descriptions of that noise reported here! Must be the time of year, but there is another current post about a bad center bearing, and my reply to you is the same - they usually don't fail catastrophically, so you can schedule a repair rather than reacting to an emergency.
