'97 960 Fuse & door release problems 900 1997

I have a '97 960 wagon w/ 102K miles-bought in Oct 2002. On a return home from Thanksgiving, noticed that power mirrors were not working, as well as temp sensor, panel lights & rear window washer/wiper-all had been with no problem for the 4K miles I've driven it. Replaced the fuse-worked for a while then blew. Tried again, immediately blew. Anyone have similar problem, ideas for where problem lies?

Also, driver's side door outside release has stopped working-flops uselessly when pulled, feels like no mechanical connection. Before I go to the trouble of pulling the door panel to look-wanted to see if anyone had similar problem and whether it could be an easy fix or likely to require mechanic.

Thanks for any help, new to Brickboard, new Volvo owner-

Cheers and Happy Holidays-

I've found a similar problem one time, quite a while ago, in a similar car- I think it was in the wiring harness that runs along the inside of the door sill, under the carpet, in the area of the bottom of the door post between the back of the driver's seat and the sill.
However, your door is probably a good place to check, since it sounds like at least something has come loose in there. See the FAQ for disassembly details.

Maybe the clue is in the door mechanism. Something is loose and shorting out a wire which is causing a fuse to blow.
