Preventing Spikes from entering the ECU 200

Has anyone come up with a method of preventing spikes from feeding from the sensors to the ECU. Is there a "capacitor in parallel" preventative measure for this?

To my knowledge, the ECU has built-in surge protection.

When was the surge protection added? Mine is a 1986 244. Did the 1986 ECUs have surge protection?
