Gas question 200 1983

My old Volvo mechanic says the 240 was designed for PREMIUM only! I usually put regular, He said that may be causing my high Nox output. I think the owners manual says reg or midgrade is fine. Car runs great on regular. Mileage isnt good so I hate to put premium in...

Any thoughts on fuel grades?

I use only premium after discovering improved mileage with it. You might try it-- In my case it gives me about 40 extra miles per tank, slightly offsetting the cost.

U.S. spec B21F B23F B230F non-turbo engines do not require Premium fuel. I use mid-grade in all my Bricks with the exception of the Turbos. High test is required for those beasts. As for high NOX problems I'd suspect vacuum leaks, timing or a bad cat as more likely culprits.
Regular or Mid-grade fuel should not be a problem for your Brick.

He's right about NOx output. But there are other things that can affect it as well. Octane is one of those things. But you can drive on 87 octane.
