removing distributor on 740 '88 700

Would someone walk me through the removal of my distributor? Can it only go back on one way? Do I have to deal with retiming the engine? What I am after is the Hall Sensor. I have heard I have to pull the distributor to get to it.

Thanks all for the description.

Jeff

Yes, the hall sensor is inside the distributor. Remove as per Mr. Ringlee's instructions but it is helpfull to mark the location before removal so that you will not have to set the ignition timing after. If this is done carefully timing will be correct. You cannot engage the distributor drive wrong because the dog is offset so that it must engage only one way.

The FAQ has instructions and a picture. Remove cap. VERY CAREFULLY remove the Hall sensor connector. Then unbolt the three fixing bolts, and pull straight back. Just remember which way the rotor is pointing so you can install it in the same orientation: the locating dogs will take care of the rest.
