Started having rough idle problems with my '90 760 Turbo. First tried some fuel treatment in the tank as a hope. The went to the FAQ of this site. I started working through the steps on the FAQ section of the site - cleaning throttle body, cleaning the air control, checking vacum leaks.

I replaced two vacum hoses - one leading from the intake to a "T" with two large hoses connected, drivers side directly behind the engine; second from the intake to the turbo.

When returning to replace the throttle body gasket, I noticed oil in the hoses leading to/from the intercooler on both the throttle body side and the turbo side. What could cause this?

I've had the car about a month, ran like a top at first, now I'm concerned. 85k on the odometer.

It's normal. Read the FAQ for more info. There is a drain on the driverside of the intercooler for the oil.

Fear not, unless several quarts come out. Haha, just kidding.

uhm...actually i would worry iif you can pull off the hose on the turbo and you find oil rather thaN just a smear of oil...

i am having to replace the turbo on my 940t and i get no oil (to speak of) in the intercooler, but it can use up to 1/2 ltr per 100 miles from the leaking turbo seals...it just breathes it all thru the engine...

basically anything more than a haze of oil in the tubes is a turbo on the way...and thats not cheap!

you may decide its worth doing the turbo (i have) or want to pass the car on before it gets any worse (which i did think about)

The question was about oil in the intercooler and I have found the little bit of oil that Mr.Acton speaks of - and was about to ask the same question! Thanks Sir Ringlee!
