Gabriel Shock Absorber 900 1995

I've been introduced by a auto part dealer to use the Gabriel made shocks for my 940 (Non-Turbo). Apparently it is made in Venezuela. I've never heard about of make. Any one has any ideas about these shocks. There are cheaper than those OEM like Sach-Boge.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks all!

I now have enough opinion to decide that perhaps paying a little would save me a bundle later on.

How much cheaper could the Gabriels be? At FCP Groton -- a sponsor of this site -- (http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo700shocks.htm) Boge Turbo Gas are only $45 & $52 for back and front respectively. And they come with a lifetime warantee. I have them on my 945, and the ride and handling are great.
It's pretty hard to beat that price -- and even harder to beat the value.
(In my humble opinion)

Gabriel has a poor reputation here in the USA. I would use Boge - they made the struts your car came with originally. I wouldn't put Gabriels on an ox-cart. The rear shock absorbers you can replace yourself, with normal tools. For the front struts, you need a spring compressor and probably an impact wrench. Leave that job to a qualified shop.

If you don't like sachs-boge(pricy), Why not use KYB shocks as they have been used over and over by some people on this and other forums. It is a cheap proven alternative albeit some don't like the results - You get what you pay for. I have had good luck with the KYB's on a 740. It is a bit stiff and a little bone jarring on washboard roads but I think that is a common complaint with KYB.

As for Gabriel shocks - I think that they belong on a North American truck!!

Just my 2 cents,

Tim
