'Service' light? 900 1992

Today while I was on business in Dow chemical I went to start the car, 960 wagon, and the "service" light came on. Major pucker factor, car trouble in the chemical plant! At any rate the car ran ok and after a few minutes it went off. Since then as soon as I start the car the light comes on but then goes off with in a few minutes of driving. whats going on? what is this light tied to?

    Here's an idea.

I reset the service engine light (even if it is not illuminated) next time I change the timing belt. Then, if I don't change the belt at my usual 20k, the light will come on about 5k miles after the belt breaks....right?

I have had more fun with my 965 then I ever had with my Fiat X 1/9.

Your owners manual explains that in some detail.... it's nothing to worry about. It runs on a clock based on miles driven. Turns on every 10,000 or so to tell you to go to Volvo and pay $50 for an oil change. You can reset it in most 900-series cars this way:
remove little black rubber plug in lower left of your instrument panel. Don't let it fall inside, pull it out to you with your fingernail or a small screwdriver blade or similar. There's a button behind it. That's the reset button. Use a pen or something small and pointy and push it in. That's it, resets it for another year or so.
Now if it said "Check Engine"... that's somethign to worry about. The Service light is supposed to stay on for 4 minutes or something after each time you start the car.

Yes, it's benign. I't's on a 30K clock, however; tune-up time. It will stay on for about 4 minutes and then turn itself off, as indicated. You can reset it by removing the rubber plug just below it on the instrument cluster and inserting a point to press the reset button. What they really need a light for is that pesky timing belt.

I stand corrected. Apparently my memory is failing worse than I thought. My V90 service reminder light is indeed @ 10K (but not at 5K as someone else suggested). I will double check the 92 that my son now owns...I thohght THAT one was 30K, but I'm not sure what I read now!
