740 GLE WONT START, no spark, battery good 700 1988

740 GLE will not start at all. Replaced battery, just dont know where to start. Hear absolutely no noises on most starts. All interior electronics run. What do i look for next? Should I get a chilton book or Hayes Manual for it?

No crank, no spark, or both ?
I'm guessing no crank. In this case check battery connections first.
Also, check the negative (ground) connection.
If the car has many miles on the closk, it could be the ignition
switch. Lastly, it could be the starter. Have someone whack it with
piece of wood, while you try to start. Sometimes starters will stick,
specially the solenoid part.
Oh, almost forgot, on some cars (maybe not yours) there is starter
inhibitor switch near or on the shifter. Wires can fall off of it.

did y check the cable that goes from the battery to the starter usually gets dirty ....

Alternator?
Mine died the dame way.
