What tire size and type should I use for 87 740 Wagon? 700

Just about to replace the tires on my 87 740 Turbo Wagon (auto) and noticed that it has 205-60 15's instead of 195-60 15 as noted on the data plate. I was just going to go back to the 195's as they should be better in the wet and snow. Or should I stay with the 205's? Thinking about going to 65 or 70 series to lower the revs also. My not be a siginifant amount to bother.

Any input about a good brand tire ( or bad!) too would be helpful. Looking for something that is great in the wet and snow but niot a winter tire. I will leave them on year round.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy:

I also have an 87 745Ti with the 15" Turbo rims. I tried the Yokohama AVS ES100 in a 225/50/15 with NO RUBBING problems whatsoever...AT full turns to either side, in & out of my driveway..no problem. The speedo is off by 2 MPH (Fast)These tires are great in the dry & rain. I been running them for the last 3 months. Now that it's snowing here in NY, I switched to a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks mounted on 760 rims..

Next step this spring is a set of sway bars & Springs...

Good Luck

205-60x15 for handling,205-65x15 for slightly better ride[that's what I have on my 87~745t]

The tread pattern is what matters most for weather especially when the tires are wide.

A more open tread pattern is better in snow and slush (and rain) when the tires have a big footprint. With very narrow tires, a tighter tread pattern isn't as bad since the "ski" effect isn't as serious as it is with the larger ones.

I wouldn't step to a 195 and then move to a 65 series if you are looking for handling. But the ride might improve a little bit. The speedo will be off slightly, and the revs will be largely the same. My speedo has a -2 or -3 error (slow) with 65s and it is just about dead on with the 60 series.
