I think I know why I'm loosing PS fluid... 200 1987

Is it possible to hook the power steering hoses up to the rack backwards? I replaced my wifes ZF rack and I have the hose coming from the pump to the banjo bolt closest to the steering shaft.I checked my '86 245 but that has a cam gear rack which has slightly different hose connections.
The wifemobile has been leaking fluid at the connections and I thought I had the washers in wrong.Does the hose from the pump go into the first inlet(top) on the rack(when looking into the engine bay, standing near the PS reservior)?

Sometimes I like to think I know what I'm doing;>

It would be difficult to hook up the hoses wrong. The banjo bolts are different sizes. You should use new crush washers of the corect size on both sides of the banjo fitting. Also, check the clamp on the return line, and the hose. Another possibility is a cracked banjo fitting or rack housing.

Bob,
I replaced the rack and although the bolts might be in the right place, the hoses may have been switched at the unions.

Never mind,I had it right.I just had a big washer where a small one went.Drained the fluid cleaned the banjo bolts and sanded the washers flat and all's well.No more leak.
