93 240 SRS light on, service engine light also 200 1993

I have only had this 93 240 wagon for about a month now and the SRS light came on and doesn't go off. Is there a way for me to turn this off? I know you can push on the back side of the instrument panel for resetting the service light but the 93's have a piece of plastic under the dash and when I feel under there I can't get my hand up to the cluster at all to flick the switch. Any advice would be appreciated for the SRS light and service light.

This is my third Volvo I have owned including a 1988 240 and a 1980 242 with the M46 which I kick myself for selling.

The SRS light is sometimes difficult to reset since it is dependent on the timing of the wire (you'll understand what I mean after you read the FAQ). Often it goes off, though.

If you can't turn the SRS light off after multiple attempts (in other words, it continues to illuminate permanently after being shut off) then you can check into a couple of things.

One is the connection in the left side of the console. Orange wiring harness, and the connection periodically corrodes (despite Volvo's attempts to stop it). Just cleaning it off with a dry cloth is usually enough.

Then, check the battery connections. All of them. On the 93 there are a few places where the connections could be weak or corroded. The SRS system is REALLY dependent on a minimum voltage threshhold and if it gets a dip beneath that, sometimes the lamp will illuminate with a "5" code (very common) which is typically caused by either a voltage spike, a voltage drop, or poor/intermittent connections.

lower right corner of inst. panel, short plastic stem with a pin in the center, depress the center only with a small object such as a toothpick or very small awl. SRS light reset procedures can be found on the B-board's features-FAQ's 700/900-SRS light. You can also read about the service light in this section.
