smoking when idle, no not me, the car... 700 1987

1987 760 turbo, automatic trans

This is the second time my car started blowing blue/black (i can only assume that i am burning oil) smoke after a mechanic worked on it...
Incident #1: Timing chain replaced and now smoke pouring out of tailpipe...
Picked up the car and was told "Gee, der, you've got lots a' smoke coming out the back of yer car. You may want to check it out. Did it do that before?" "No," I replied, pissed as ever. I was told it was probably internal engine damage or that my turbo was shot; either way I didn't have the money to fix it (the mechanics never were able to explain how or why it would all of the sudden start smoking like it did). I talked to the manager and I asked that if there was a problem with cokey oil gumming up the turbo then maybe there was an additive I could use to "de-coke" the oil. He suggested a product called "Sea Foam." I picked some up, after being pulled over for the excessive smoke streaming behind me (I'm surprised I was even able to see the officer), and in about a week from adding it to my crankcase the smoke was gone! Fabulous! A five dollar fix for what the mechanics thought might cost me 1000.
Incident #2: Brakes repaired (by my cousin, so I at least got a deal) and now smoke pouring out of tailpipe!!!
Went to Just Brakes to visit my cousin, the manager, and also to get all my rotors replaced:) The car had been acting up in the past two weeks (seems there is a large hole in the AMM to turbo hose which will be replaced soon) and it was having a very difficult time accelerating. My inference is that my cousing test-drove the car to check out the new brakes (he told me he did anyway) and in doing so tried to use the turbo (which at this time was practically non-functioning what with the giant air leak in the system) and therefore may have blown a seal or possibly made the turbo dump oil into the exaust. When I drove away and the engine warmed up, that's when I noticed the familiar stink of burning oil and sure enough clouds of smoke were billowing out of my tailpipe. Since then I added "Sea Foam" to the crank case and tightened up the air hoses to the turbo (I also re-made a broken gasket on the bypass valve leading from the turbo) and temporarily patched the AMM to turbo hose with duct tape. The turbo works fine now, but I still have smoke coming out of my tailpipe.
The smoke is really bad when i am idling and when i accelerate from a stop. I like to think that it is not there when I am driving on the freeway or on surface streets, but i know that just because i don't see any smoke doesn't mean that it's not there (i feel so environmentally irresponsible).
I have told you everything that has happened with the car recently so if you have any ideas on how to fix the smoke problem, or how to identify it (hopefully without having to remove the turbo, cause man that looks difficult) i would appreciate it greatly.
thanks for listening to my rant,
trina
