old gas in 84 244 200

i've purchased a 1984 244 gl from a neighbor.the car has 95k on it and is is super shape. he has run the car as recently as 6 months ago but mentioned that he doesn't want to start it now because he's been told that the gas may have gone bad. i'll empty the tank and put new fuel in before i give it a crank, but i wanted to know if there may be other items i need to look at/for before i start it. he says it ran fine the last time he drove the car. i have a 92 244 now with 82k (front end damage about to be repaired) and am wondering how reliable the 84 will be as compared to the 92. any comments are, as always, greatly appreciated.
thanks,eric

I would certainly check the oil before you start up. Maybe pull the plugs and see what kind of shape they're in; ditto for the cap and rotor. Beyond that, see how she runs, then just change the fluid and air filters and maybe put a can of Techron in the tank.

The 92 is more refined (better AC, ABS, air bag) and of course it has the newer injection system; I believe the '84 has the K-jetronic. Beyond that the cars are pretty similar. Certainly some of the veteran Brickboarders who own vintage as well as newer 240's can comment on the relative reliability.
