83 242 engine swap to 81 245 200

I have an 83 242 which is waiting patiently for an engine rebuild. I just found a nice wagon body that i would like to put my engine & trans in. I just worry about harnesses & mounts, etc. matching up since mine has a B23F engine and the wagon should have come with a B21. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
ghop

    83 242 engine swap to 81 245 200

I MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN TOO CLEAR. THE 81 WAGON HAS NO ENGINE OR TRANNY. I WANT TO USE THAT FROM THE 83 2 DOOR. SO, I HAVE NO 81 ENGINE PARTS -
    THANKS

As long as you keep everything to the spec of the YEAR OF THE CAR, you'll have no trouble. That means, go ahead and put the B23 in the 81, but if you find that any of the sensors are different, install the old sensor from the '81 engine, along with the '81 intake and fuel distributor. All of the tapped holes, mount locations, accessory parts are the same for the two engines. If one car is an auto and the other is a manual, just make sure you swap over the flywheel and/or pilot bearing as needed.

Basically, EVERYTHING comes off the donor engine (B23) and all the stuff from the 81 setup goes on it. Then, the wiring from the 81 engine compartment will all just plug in, and everything will be happy.

Mechanically, things will match right up, i.e. engine mounts, trans bell housing bolts, exhaust, etc.

Note. 83 B23F had LH injection, and no injector holes in the head. 81 has K-jet, where the injecters mount in the head. Easiest swap would be to mount the B21 head to the B23 block, and use the 81 fuel system. Otherwise, tou would have to either use the entire fuel system from the 83 or have injector holes machined into the B23 head

Exactly, this really wouldn't be a difficult swap.

Biggest thing is, keep your FI set ups the same or it does get difficult. Your 81 should have k-jettronic still. Heres the sticker, your 83 242 is non-turbo then right? That means its LH which is where your going to have a snag.

        What I would do:

Go snag a k-jet head from an 82 or older 240. While your taking the head, grab any and all senders you can get your hands on from the DS of the motor and you'll be in more or less buisness.

Now heres the tricky part. Does your shell still have a wiring harness and the computer? How about the k-jet fuel distributor. If you've got those your in buisness, if not I'd build the 242 up instead!
