found a fellow w/ a couple early 80's 2dr gl & gle 240's. any forseable problems with transplanting one of his rear ends into my '82 245GL wagon ? different attachment plates at the driveshaft, mounting points, spring perches, etc ?

    Bolts right in. No issues, other than ratio changes affecting your speedo.
    You may have to change the speedo drive gear in your trans to get it correct.

    Determine the axle ratio this way:
    block one wheel from turning or jack just one wheel up. Leave the other free to spin (assuming no limited slip, fairly rare). Put trans in neutral, park brake off. Mark the driveshaft yoke with white-out or another visible mark. Turn your free wheel exactly 20 rotations in the same direction. COunt the rotations of the driveshaft. Estimate the last fraction of a turn based on where the mark winds up. Divide the result by 10 for the ratio. SO: 20 turns gives 33 and about a half a rotation of the driveshaft= 33.4 turns /10 = 3.34 axle. It's simpler than it sounds. Interested to know what you find.

      As AQye Roll said, it'll bolt right in. However, two different size drive shafts were used based on engine/trans combos. You may have to swap the flange for the drive shaft mount.

        how big of a swap is this ? i had to swap the flange when i replaced the tranny, same thing ?
        one big nut on a splined shaft & a bit of co-ercing w/ a rubber mallet ?

      so long as it physically works, i couldn't care about ratios or it affecting my speedo .. have a gps that i can use to figure out the speed diff. & i'm pretty sure my wagon already has the highest gearing in it. 120km/hr @ 3-3100rpm.
