LOWER THE FRONT SUSPENSION 200 1984

I own a 240 GL 1984 model. I intend to lower the front suspension . How do I do it ? Please advice, I thought to cut 1 round of the coin spring, is it possible ?

You can cut coils, but keep in mind that it will make the suspension stiffer. If you do cut the coils, it's better to use a cut off abrasive disk than a torch, so you don't de-temper the spring steel.

Well from what I have read 1.5 coils will give you a 1.5"drop.
This is only from what I have read. I have not done this yet. I plan to so I am equally an interested in others findings. Preveously I was always against the idea of chopping coil springs, but with very good shocks and struts I suppose it would not be bad. Just make sure everything else is good before you do it. And remember one thing....you can cut more off if its not where you want it, but once you have taken too much off thats it. You will for sure need new.
I plan to do 1 full coil, then the half. 1.5" with lower profile tire will get it closer to the ground. Oh and decide on a tire first too.
    Good Luck..

      Hi.

Lowering my 240 has been in my plans for a while. I would buy sport coil springs from IPD that lower the car 1 or 1.5", I forget.

I tried coil spring clamps they sell at autoparts stores ad everything went fine up front but, having stiffer "cargo" coil springs in the back, I rolled about 5 miles hitting just enough bumps that made the coils snap under the extra tension. One actually broke in two places....

So, no more homemade suspension issues for me. Just let us know if you try it.
