What wheels will fit our cars? 140-160

I have seen 240 Turbo wheels on our cars, and then I also saw newer 850 Turbo style wheels on a 145. Does this require a different hub or anything special? Also, if this does work, then wouldn't any aftermarket wheel that fits almost any newer car also fit an old 140???

Bolt circle is the same, 5 on 108mm diameter, and all RWD wheels fit the early cars. 14, 15 or 16, all fit.
To use the FWD wheels you'll need wheel spacers to push the mounting face of the wheel outward, or you'll have clearance problems, esp in the rear fenders.
See www.gilracing.com for wheel spacers. Not cheap but not many other options if you want this unique look.
All wheels from 850, S/V70, S/V90, XC's, etc will fit. The S40/V40 and the 1993-only 850 have 4-bolts and won't work. OTOH, the 16" Hydras from a 90 740T are getting cheaper every day...

What wheels will fit our cars? 140-160

Hi all.About the 850 wheels on a 140,I was told by several people that I would need spacers to run 850 wheels.I got an 850 wheel and test fit it on the car. What I found was no clearance issues in the rear.On the front, the wheels hit the upper control arm (on the back side) when the wheel was turned sharp (to full lock).I found thought with tires installed there was no scraping! I havn't put the car in the air with the suspension loaded but I assume the tire is hitting the sway bar on the opposite side not allowing the wheel to rub the control arm.I will look under there and verify that.My 15" tires hit my sway bar at full lock also so it didn't really concearn me.The only time I turn full lock is u turns and I do those at reasonable speeds! I have no fender rubbing issues either and the car is pretty low and still has it's original "low cut" fenders.

Yeah, I actually stuck a bare 850R rim on a '70 142S a few years ago, and it did fit. It looked tight, and I couldn't verify that it would work or not with a tire on it. I do know the 240 and at least the '75 164's I've had rub tires on the inside of the rear fenders, on the sides of the trunk box. That's with 195/60-15 tires, and with some of the big 850T wheel & tire combos this would be worse, I'd think. The fronts of a 140 may have more space than I give them credit for- I know it'll clear the brakes but I don't know for sure about suspension parts, and body and frame clearance.
With the different factory offsets, they *should* need spacers to maintain proper clearance. YMMV!!

        Oh yeah! 140-160

Sorry I forgot.tires are 195/50-16.I went with the ever-cheap Kumho's from the tire rack. They were $280 for 4 in the door and have worked very well!

Any wheel with a 5 on 108mm (4-1/4") bolt circle will bolt up, although that doesn't mean you won't have clearance or handling issues -- the offset has to be right, meaning you want to keep the centerline of the wheel right where Volvo put it.

Candidates would be any 200- or 700-series wheels, as well as '70-onwards 1800-series wheels. There's a good aftermarket selection as well.

Generally speaking, if it fits the RWD Volvo's, it'll fit the 140's.

There's more to wheel selection than just the offset. The backspacing needs to be considered too. A wide wheel with the same offset may not fit either, because the portion that'll be behind the hub is too deep.

I've run two kinds of Ford Taurus wheel- older cross spoke and newer 16 inch 5 spoke- they are under my tech stuff on Http://www.geocities.com/iadr1/geocitiesintro.html They bolt on. Apparently, so do Lincoln LS wheels and they are 16 x 7.5 for you real perf guys...

You don't need spacers for 140's to run 850 wheels. Two aspects are at play- the 140 axle is wider than a 240 by a bit and the body is the same- I don't feel like arguing this- check it for yourself if you want. Also 140's do not use hubcentricity to locate the wheel like a 240 was forced to becauce of the wheel balance sensitivity caused by the cheezy geometry of the struts.
