Anyone heard of a 240 GTT? 200

Picked up an '81 242t this week. Included with the paper work is the factory invoice and the original sales reciept. On both invoices the car is refered to as a 240 GTT. I've not heard of this designation before. At first I thought it was a typo and they really meant GLT, but it is repeated a number of times on both invoices. Any clues?

Just to get this clear.

Was it written by hand on the invoice. Could the salesperson be distracted or just plain stupid?

No, it's typed in on the original sales reciept from Volvo to the dealer($10,137), the sales reciept to the customer($12,776.75) and on the odometer Mileage Statement (21 miles). The only thing that is hand written are the options for the car, two of which I can't read (poor handwriting).

That is weird.

1981 was the first year for 'GLT's, and not all 'GLT's were turbocharged. Perhaps they shortened the 'GLT' designation to 'GT' (since 'GT's were no longer made there would be no confusion) and added the additional 'T' to indicate 'Turbocharged'.

I'm not sure, but weren't not all the GTs turbos? Maybe thatsis the designation for a turboed GT... Don't know this, just a thought.

Maybe a really early production model? In most of the rest of the world a GLT is grand luxe touring, with B23E, not turbo B21FT as is often thought. Maybe that was an internal designation to separate the "Turbo" from the "GLT"

This is getting more interesting all the time. The car was originally purchased from Volvo by a distant relative, who was a Volvo dealer at the time, as a gift for his mother. Family folklore has it that this is the last car he purchased from the factory before selling his dealership. She owned the car for 21 years until she passed away a year ago. I'm going to try and contact him to see if he remembers the details of the purchase.

Recently I ran across a site that had 240s listed by year and Vin#. Of course, now I can't find it again. Anyone know where I might find this info?

I had thought about hot-rodding this little beast, but now I'm more inclined to restore it to original condition, with the exception of a water-cooled turbo and possibly an intercooler.

Thanks to all that have responded.
