Possible Transmission problems 200 1986

I have a 1986 Volvo Stationwagan. I noticed that when I come to a stop, the engine makes a jerking motion. Could this be the transmission? Is a new transmission expensive?

It could be a low idle (clean throttle body to fix-easy), failing motor mounts allowing the engine to contact the front cross member (easy fix at your mecahnic's) or brake troubles.

Tippi,

Just recently I had a problem very similar to what you describe, turned out the rear brakes were shot. The jerking motion was accompanied by some movement of the gear shift lever as the vehicle came to a stop.

Very easy to check, cheap too.
