Which engine got the best fuel consumption and performance: B230t, B234f, B230f?
I am just curious to find “the best”, actually what are advantages and disadvantages of each one. I owe 1989 740GLE b234f 169000km, and fuel consumption is 18/20m/g.
Is that O.K.?

You're doing all right. Not great but so much depends on how you drive, how much stop-n-go, etc.
The best possible mileage combination would be a 1990-92 car with B230F, (LH 2.4), an M47, in a base model sedan without sunroof or a lot of power options. Lightest possible car with the 5 spd. The automatic hurts mileage about 10%.

Best performance would be a 1990 740T sedan with the M46. Again, 5-spd in the lighter car. Fairly rare car - grab one if you see it! We once sold an '89 740T wagon with a stick, black with black leather.... the guy drove here from Minnesota to get it!! That was 22 hours of driving each way!

I've got the 90 b234f auto, I get about 23-24mpg. I'm in sales drive about 65-100 each day.

Also have 85 b230f w M-46 overdrive broken, same loop, about 28-29mpg.

The 85 is more fun to drive btw.

Man, if you get 24 MPG with a B234F, i envy you..... I think i might have gotten 22 MPG this weekend on my roadtrip, but not too sure... I know it was somewhere arount 20...

However, the B234F and auto is rated for 16-24 MPG
