Electric Fan Conversion 200

I reviewed a previous posting and Dave Barton's website. A couple of questions persist in my mind. How and with what do I connect a power source to the electric fan? I'm afraid of blowing a fuse. Also, sorry if this is a dumb question, but the electric fan is mounted only to the radiator and does not touch the water pump pulley, right? Thanks in advance for your patience, understanding, and support.

The electric fan mounts to the radiator. It has a thinner profile than the original Volvo water pump fan/clutch. Once installed, you will be AMAZED how much extra space you have in the engine bay. It makes future drivebelt changed much easier.

The fans are generally thinner then the old Fan and Clutch assembly.

You could go straight to the battery for a power source, or be a little neater and pull power from the little junction block of red wires right behind the battery. Any autoparts store or Radio shack sells little in-line fuse holders. Get one rated 15 A. Get a generic 12 V relay from the auto parts store. You would connect 12V from your fuseholder to one main terminal on the relay; a wire from this to the + of the fan motor, and a wire from - on the fan motor, to the chassis (ground). Then connect a wire to + on the relay coil (small terminals) from any source that goes on with the key- any of a dozen places on the fuse block are fine, this takes less than 1 A. Connect the - from the relay coil to either a switch on the dash, or (much better IMO) a thermo-switch as found in all new radiators. If your radiator has been replaced, it likely has a thermoswitch or at least a threaded hole for one, built right in. Connect a wire from the other pin of the switch to ground, and you're done.
Good luck!
