(Note that this is conceptual, in that I have not done such, nor acquired the materials. I have yet to see a pre-fabricated one ... this is a DIY method for a mesh grill look.)
The grill is a two piece design, in which the outer frame can be removed from the inner frame. The inner portion is consists of the slats and the mounting to the car ... the outer is just a cover frame. They're held together by some plastic rivets, which can be separated and reused if you remove the center pin by poking it from the inside-out.
But first, remove the Volvo sash. Use the small (aka precision) wire cutters to cut the circlips holding the little plastic studs. Make these sacraficial, not the plastic pins, which can't be replaced. This way, you can preserve the sash should you want to put it back on or sell it on ebay for some $$.
Now that it's seperated, wrap the inner portion with the mesh. Attach in the typical manner (zip ties, duct tape, etc. - creativity counts here!), and reverse assembly. If the plastic pins can't be reused, some panhead screws and nuts ought to do the trick. Or you can use more zip ties ...
If it looks decent, keep it. If not, reverse everything you've just done and revert back to original. Shouldn't have been any harm or foul except in a little time and material.
