Retrofit 140 parts to 122s 120-130 1967

Is it possible to retrofit the alt. from a 1973 145 into a '67 122s. It seems like a good alternative to the Delco part because it is still Volvo. Also I would retain the voltage reg from the 140, can't I just connect the wires and be on my merry way? Thanks all.

A B18 block will lack the large forward facing alternator mount bolt hole. And the wiring loom will not be exactly compatible beween a generator and an alternator. But clearing the hurdles - an alternator is a great upgrade for a generator equipped car.

But there is nothing magical about the Bosch or Marchal(Motorola) alternators on 140's. They are relatively expensive, relatively weak, and relatively hard to find. Relative to the Delco alternator, that is. Talk to Ron Kwas about a kit for one of those.

The thing is is that I have a 145 that I am thinking of parting and I have these parts already. Also the engine in the 122 is a B20.

In that case... go for it. No problems.... though, the wiring will be a little bit different, so be sure to take a good look at how the 145 is hooked up before you tear into it...

Exactly. Study a 140 wiring diagram carefully, possibly harvest and reuse the portion of the wiring loom going between the VR and the alt.

I have a Marchal/SEV/Motorola unit in my PV for the same reason - 140 donor car - free parts.

If doing it from scratch the Delco sounds a bit better but you can't beat free.

John;

I agree with you...on hand for the taking is tough to beat!
...and: Thanks for the recommendation!

TJ;

Study the donor and recipient vehicle wiring diagram. You must also swap reg...in the end, make the recipient vehicle have the same wiring as the donor vehicle had. If and when the Volvo alt ever craps, the option is still open to upgrade to Delco it repairs are prohibitively expensive on a 30A Marchal/SEV/Motorola.

Cheers
