Oil Analysis 900

I just ordered an analysis kit from a lab in Spokane. Forgotten their name at the moment, but will report back here with results and my impressions of their work quality, once the cycle is completed. I just bought a 940 (1994) at a bargain price and want to see if it was too good to be true. A properly done oil analysis can indicate if the engine has excessive wear.

..here's more: the Jiffy Lube website says they offer oil analysis at their shops. I phoned three of their shops in SoCal (Santa Maria, Ventura, and Huntington Beach, just S. of LA) None knew what I was talking about. This kinda fits with the urban legends on this and other car BB's about Jiffy Lube. I phoned their customer service number - Houston area code. They answered the phone: "Shell Lubricants..." Eventually I was transferred to a guy who answered the phone "yeah - Fred here..." but upon further questioning revealed that he was indeed Jiffy Lube customer service. (Are you getting the same impression I got?) Fred revealed that the oil analysis was a program they were "getting started" and that it really is a pilot in a few stores and not on the West Coast yet.

All in all, you're probably better to ask someone at a trucking Co. where they get their oil done. Those folks are taking care of $100,000's worth of machinery and they don't mess with lightweights.

Try using Blackstone Labs, Forth Wayne Indiana. E-mail them they will send you free kits. You pay when you send in the analysis, they e-mail you the results, and you get them quicker that way. The last analysis for me was a total of 5 days, snail mail to e-mail. Their website is "blackstone-labs.com." They are respected in the industry.

Stay away from Amsoil for testing, at this time. They have been farming out their analyses to CTC labs with a slow turnaround (3+ weeks) and suspect results.

see ur local amsoil dealer or google oil analysis... 900

I ended up with a vampire sucker and box of pre cut sample tubes and 20 sample jars/prepaid mailers...costs about $20 to get one done. Of course the vampire sucker costs a few bux and in low quant the sample jars and mailers are bought ahead of time. Sounds like you would be better off just going yellow pages and looking under amsoil for a local dealer who can fix you up.
