how tight to turn fittings on new fuel pump and fuel filter install? 700

Gang, I'm putting a new fuel pump/filter on my 88 740 volvo... actually, I'm waiting till the weekend because it is actually supposed to get above freezing here in upstate NY.

at any rate, how tight thereabouts should I be wrenchind on these fittings? Half turn? full turn past finger tight?

any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Look, if you're used to tightening nuts and bolts generally, you just KNOW when it's right. HOWEVER, what you're aiming to do with fuel connections is rather like brake hoses ie get them to seal - so, as soon as they start to "bite" just give it a little bit more and you're done, like, I don't know, maybe a quarter turn more. That's the best answer you'll get from anyone because, as other replies indicate, there isn't an exact figure - it's not a torque thing.
BTW, the hardest part of the job, as Invar suggests, is the REMOVAL of pump and filter. I use two spanners (wrenches) on each hexagon, about 30 degrees apart, and SQEEEEEEEZE them together. That way you shouldn't damage anything. (I once twisted a fuel pipe on my now sold 245 but learned from that mistake, as you do..........). Regards.

If I could give you a torque spec, I would, but none of my manuals mention anything for these fittings. So you just gotta eyeball it. This fits into "kinda, sorta" terms.

weezy, just be prepared for a really hard time in removing your existing fuel filter and be very careful not to snap/twist the lines.

I used a little antiseize on the threads and gave them a good snug down. Hard to say how much is enough: I do it by feel. Recognize that you are slightly crushing the copper washers to get a good seal. Be careful that you don't rotate the fuel pump-to-filter line, which is flexible and can break.

After you get it all together, use a little anti-rust around the threaded joints so they don't rust together.
