What was the mileage when your fuel pump quit? 200 1992

I've got almost 200k and am wondering whether I could have a sudden failure. It hasn't made a hint of trouble, but it is one of those things that can put you down on the interstate.

I do pack a spare FP relay, been meaning to pick up a crank sensor.

In-tank pump: 136,000mi; Main pump, knock on wood! 700 1989

Symptoms before the in-tank pump quit included stalling once the tank got less than half full (or is it more than half empty), and a buzzing main pump. Not just the normal hum, a loud buzz.

What was the mileage when your fuel pump quit? 200 1992

Mine died in my 86 last summer at 200-201K. But searching through records it looks like it all got replaced at around 130-150K, before I got it. That is, both fuel pumps, filter, sock, and fuel pressure regulator over the course of a year. Other than the single failure of the main pump again recently, this one's been troublefree the entire time I've had it (3 yrs now).

Doug,
I have a 89 240 with 236,000 miles on her, and I have yet to a problem with the fuel system. I inherited the car from my father, and he never had any work done to the fuel system either. Practice the good karma approach, take care of the her and she will never let you down. If the filter has been changed at the correct intervals and the pumps haven't been strained, they should last for a good long time. Best of luck.

You just had to say it....

That's always how my car problems start.

"I haven't replaced brakes exhaust in xxxxxxx years"

The very next day I can count on the whole exhaust system spontaneously rotting and falling off.

Actually, I'd say you must keep the gas tank towards the full side most of the time. it doesn't make a big difference, but it makes a big difference if you don't run the thing almost dry from time to time.
