flametrap 200 1985

I keep hearing about this thing called a flametrap. I have no idea what a flametrap is. I have a '85 240dl b230f. Can someone explain to me what flametrap is, where it's located, how often I have to change it, and why. Is this something critical? Greatful for any advice! Thx everyone! StreetAngel

here's a good explanation:

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineSealsBeltsVent.htm#Crankcase_Ventilation_%20A_Treatise

and pretty much it's the same on your car even though it's a 200.

so to put it briefly, yep, it's critical, and it's often very easily overlooked.

very true, I blew both the front and cam seal. What a mess in the engine bay!!!
And the smoke coming from the hood will get your heart pumping - guaranteed!
Get it changed to a more accessible location and do it yourself more often
