I need wiring 200 1982

I changed my headgasket and now I can't get the car to run in time. All of my underhood wiring is bad, I knew that going in. I don't know if that is what is causing my new problem, but it doesn't help to have potential shorts and not know where. I am going to replace all the underhood harness, but I can't afford a new set. Does someone have a factory reproduction harness that has low miles? I have been without transportation for a while because of the problem. This was suposed to be a weekend project.

Jimmy,
I have a hard copy of instructions from Simon Eng on how he replaced his harness cheaply by the individual wire method. If you want me to send you (snail mail... my scanner is out to lunch) a copy, email me privately with an address and I'll get it in the mail on Saturday. You could try a Brickboard search for Simon Eng but I don't think he published it to the board.

I have an extra used harness in perfect condition but I don't know what year it is or what year it fits . It has the gray connector . If someone here can give me an idea how how to identify which year (s) it fits I am sure I could sell it to you for a decent price .

I reworked all the engine compartment wiring on my '82 240. I agree with the 24-hour estimate -- but man, what an improvement!

Be careful and patient.

Are you sure ALL your wiring is bad? I've disassembled and rebuilt several K-type and one L-type harnesses on pre-85' cars and never found all of the wires to be bad. Typically, the 16-18 gage wires to the alternator are bad, plus some of the wires to sending units under the intake manifold. Never found defective wiring to Bosch FI components. What I've done is to remove the entire harness, discard any bad wires (no splicing) and used a harness from a later model car (the fittings are the same) to build replacement wires as needed. For some time and patience you can save $$ and get reliable electrics.

Just a reminder.
Make sure any used replacement that you get is part # 3515381 (that info is from Dave's site). That's the replacement part #.

Jimmy,
check this site out to see about a good priced harness. the only way it will be cheaper than this is to DIY with one wire at a time, and that is probably a good 24 hours of work.http://www.linkline.com/personal/dbarton/WireHarnesses.html

Best,
Chuck

Check out http://www.car-part.com and enter your search terms. Several yards have harnesses listed for $100 or less complete with web site and e-mail links.

Good luck,
