The blue ones give you 50 more hp, but the red ones give you only 30 more hp. Seriously, though, the Magnecor wires are good ones. Even Magnecor will admit to you that their wires will give you no more horsepower. They have a lot of good information on their website that is worth reviewing. New wires will make a difference if you have ignition problems to start with, which is often the case on an older car that has not been well maintained. You certainly cannot go wrong with the Magnecor and I think they come with a lifetime warrantee, so the extra initial cost may be worthwhile. There are other good wires and there are some that may cause interference on some cars due to having too little resistance and there are some that are poorly made.

Jacobs Electronics is a company that I have been disgusted with for many years. They used to engage in a lot of false advertising, claiming mileage gains of 10% right down to the decimal point in advertisements placed in major car magazines. They stopped this practice shortly after I reported them to the Texas Attorney General's Office. But this was many years ago now. I think Jacobs was a good company when it was in CA and run by Jacobs. It has been sold since. In fact it was very recently sold again. Their salesmen are pretty aggressive, so I would be wary. In the magazine tests of ignitions that I have read that have included Jacobs, Jacobs has not been the "most powerful ignition" like they claim. Of course if you questioned Jacobs on that, they would probably claim that the car magazines used different methods of measuring power than Jacobs. Based on my experiences over several years with Jacobs, after which I ended up with over $500 worth of useless and broken Jacobs ignition parts, I'll trust the car magazines.

By the way, I have used Crane and MSD, and had both fail also. I think aftermarket ignition amplifiers are less reliable than stock ones. They are much hotter and are usually capacitive discharge rather than inductive. MSD replaced the ampifier for $65; Crane replaced it for free (and the newer Crane are all epoxied inside and appear to be more durable). Jacobs replaced it once for free but only after a lengthy battle and tried to charge me a "discount price" for the one after that. I refused to throw good money after bad. The only one that seems to have a lifetime warranty is the Accel 300+.

But by all means experiment with plug gaps and wires and amplifiers. In certain circumstances, these things can make a difference. Indexing plugs, fancy plugs, colder plugs, hotter coils, etc., can also sometimes help. But the stock stuff is pretty good and pretty trouble free in my experience. You have to do a lot of mods before you need to change it.

john..I noticed a stronger engine with the Magnacor. I will re-gap the plugs saturday .35 and see how that works. A fuller or larger spar,k takes care of any rich mixture..Thanks!
