Any Tips on How to Best remove/install Dist.Cap? 900

I have read through the FAQ's and have not found any suggestions on how to remove the distributor cap on my 94 944 NA. The cap has about 1.5" clearance to the firewall with the wires attached. Any suggestions on removal/replacement?
I have installed new plugs and wires and would like to finish the job. My 93 945 has the side block mounted distributor.........no problem. Thanks!

If you have not done this job yet, may want to consider replacing oring while at it. In fact if you have oil in distributor cap, the distributor is not that difficult to pull out - JUST MAKE SURE YOU MARK THE DISTRIBUTOR AND FLANGE so you can re-align for same timing. Then you can replace o-rings on distributor shaft and stop oil leaks. Even if I did not have oil, I'd replace them as preventative maintenance if never change. They tend to get hard from the heat.

I use an 8mm ratcheting box end wrench to loosen the three bolts that hold the distributor cap on. This tool makes it an easy job.

I believe they are 10mm screws. Be very careful about getting the rotor on correctly. I thought mine was, but I ended up cracking the cap. Make sure it is seated all the way. Expensive lesson for me.

Small 1/4 inch ratchet, short wobbly drive and a socket. It's easy.
