G'day All!

Tonight I blew out a welsh plug. Not a big deal in itself but what I would like to know is what can cause a welsh plug to blow out as opposed to leaking/coroding away? The block is only coming up to 3 yrs old and the coolant has been changed a few times in that period anyway.

Does high revs have something to do with it?

If it has never been frozen, my guess is that it either is a size too small
or was not properly installed. I've usually had a pretty hard time getting
them out when I wanted them out.

BTW I assume you mean the freeze plugs in the block.
We usually call them "soft plugs"

I don't think this car know's what it's like to go below 5degC, it's been more like 25degC-40degC over the last month (Sydney, Australia).

Maybe it wasn't installed properly and it's just it's time to come out again......

Perhaps the cap on the coolant overflow bottle is not releasing pressure as it should?

Revs should have nothing to do with it -- it's more a matter of rising coolant temperature increasing pressure in the system, but that cap is designed to release pressure above a certain point. Make sure the cap has the correct rating.

Being Welsh it decided it wanted more Leek perhaps?

That's a *Rare-bit* of humour, that!

Pity the good humour of the Welsh was wasted, our version of core plugs are welch plugs. Yours obviously was not fitted properly Alex. With the lens type centre should be flattened then go round perimeter of flat with hammer/punch.
