Violent shimmy during high speed braking 200 1991

I recently asked for advice about a91 240 shaking and shuddering during high speed braking. It felt like the rear end was going to fly apart.

Found the problem today..it was the rear rotors!!! One was warped very badly, but we shaved it down to legal limits and reused it. The other side was so bad I trashed it and installed a new one. Put it all back together and no more shudder :)

Just passing on some info that might help someone else someday.

Go Bucs!

    miracleman,

Thanks for the info, I always enjoy reading your posts! I had a similar problem on my '93 240 but on the front.

No offense intended, but wouldn't it have been advisable to replace both rotors instead of replacing one and turning the other? By replacing both with the same manufacturer, and when everything is apart, both sides will more likely be consistent. (FCP groton has rear rotors for $20)

With one side new and the other near minimums, you will have to replace the older one at some point not too far off (depending of course on the number of miles and how long you want to keep the car). Also, I don't know what luck you've had with turning warped rotors, but others have reported that it was often not successful. Let us know how it goes....

    Good Luck!
