Holden V8 700 1991

I have a 91' 740. I live in Australia and I want to put a Holden V8 engine into my car. I was wondering if anyone has done this or knows of any other good engine swaps. I am still considering whether to turbo my engine, so if anyone can give me some positive and negative feedback it would be appreciated.

I'm in the USA and enjoy watching Australian V8 Supercar racing. Your Ford Falcon is one nice looking car! I'd never heard of Holden before finding this series and was curious about them in general. By other posts it appears they're in the GM family.

As far as conversion, for ideas try:

They sell kits for Ford 302 it looks like. Perhaps others? Click on "In house built cars" for examples. The 960 Volvo with a 393 is incredible. 500hp, 500ft/lb torque. Just the thing.

    gday perfect sleeper.
as an aussie myself i would love to chuck a 308 holden in my volvo but ill stick to the turbo for now. there used to a 200 series going around town (murwillumbah NSW) and it had a 350 chev in it so it has been done before. but with the 740 because its a big car you should be able to drop a V8 engine in it. i would myself be looking at a 350 chev just because its more powerful and probarly better than the old holden motor. good to see a volvo with a big V8 in it.

    Perfect Sleeper ...

Just wondering .... HOLDEN, I believe is a division of General Motors ... is there any chance that the HOLDEN 5.7 is in reality a Chevy Small Block 350 ? It so , MANY people have been down this road before you .....

BTW I truly enjoy watching the Aussie V8 Supercars races on satellite here in Nova Scotia ... what NASCAR USED to be ... at least you guys still start out with a production vehicle

GM does own Holden. The new Pontiac GTO is really a Holden Monaro so I suspect they must use the same V8 engine or a very similar one to GM's domestic V8's.

The Holden engine is a Small-Block Chevy engine.... (www.gmpowertrain.com) you can see the holden at www.holden.com.au and the high-performance models at www.hsv.com.au

    Hi

The Holden V8 is not really common outside Australia go to this link below this is a Aussie board and ask this Question. There is a person on the board
he goes by the name tony66 he own a shop in Melbourne that converts volvo to V8s volvos. Or goto the V8 forum on the brickboard they mostly talk about ford and chev engines. Click on the fourms tab up the top of the page and you will find the V8 fourm link in there

I think the Holden V8's are very closely related to the GM small blocks, so dimensionally, it should work the same ... the only issue is that Jags That Run still hasn't published the book for the 700-series yet, though the 200-series could apply just as well.

-- Kane ... BTW, the V8 board could offer a bit more help.
