End of 240 Anniversary? 200 1993

I'm suspecting we must be fast approaching the 10th Anniversary of the last 240 produced.

Does anyone have an exact (confirmed) last build date?

'93 owners - what are YOUR build dates?

Back in 1993, could you technically get a last-of-the-line 240 Classic with a 5-speed manual?

5th of May at Torslanda. It was rolled directly over to the Volvo museum. Here's a picture of it.

Yeah saw that one in Gothenburg last summer. Made to italian spec, but rather bare-bone model considering the options available over the years.

Sad to see that in the museum much time is spent explaining the history and the future of Volvo but very little about the time inbetween (the 240 740 years)

It is kind of sad. I'd buy a new 245 today if they offered one.

But can you imagine the price?

Ten years ago, at the end of the 240 run, it took $23K US dollars to buy a 240. It certainly seemed overpriced to me at the time.

From some of the prices Ive seen lately, late model 240s are still bringing significant prices. Too bad there weren't more of the 5 speed versions closer to the end of production.

Interesting thought, anybody know where # 1600 is? My 93 245 is #869. No major problems. 110k on it laste time I looked. Just the tailgate struts, harness, and odom meter stuff.

March of 93. Good ol white 245. She rolls along ahppily, by and large. I saw that they were supposed to have ECU problems, but the car hasn't been very problematic. In fact, it has been quite good, with all the traditional annoying wagon problems in the for:

tailgate struts, tailgate harnesses, that sort of thing.

I have #1549/1600. The sticker on the inside of the door says that it was made 4/93.

BTW, she's a ruby red wagon with charcoal cloth interior, 133K.

Hi

An interesting question :-)

I´ve looked it up in a Volvo book - the last 240 left factory on 05/05/1993
I think it was a wagon :-)

My 240 was built in 1989. A wagon with B230F engine and 5 speed manual transmission!

Have a nice day and have fun with the birthday celebration!!

Ciao M.P.

End of 240 production 200 1993

I remember hearing an announcement at the time. Unless my memory has shorted out, it was in September.

Maybe the last US export model was made in May. Or maybe they counted the "Classic" version as a special production run.

Which is another interesting point--even at the time, Volvo recognized that something there was something different about the 240. I don't recall any end-of-production special versions for their other models.

Doug,

The differences were small, almost a joke considering the great reputation the 240 series built for VoLvo corp. A wood grain trim on the dash and a small sticker on the dash indicating it's series number in the "end of the line" limited edition.
