Tony,
I also live in CowTown and own two old bricks: 1982 244DL 247 000 km B21A and a 1985 245 DL B23F. I am lucky enough to be able to perform most, if not all, of the required repairs on my Swedish Armada. Ther are two independents in town, both of whom have somewhat dodgy reputations for expensive service. Mr. Volvo Plus and Swany Volvo. Both shops know their stuff and can fix anything, but the also know that they have you over a barrel for repairs. I guarantee you that unless you specifically tell them what you want repaired, it will end up "runnin' ya" a pretty penny. Anybody I have talked to has never spent less than $300 as soon as they drove through the bay doors. Mr. Volvo and Swany have a great selection of genuine Volvo parts, and Swany has lots of not so reasonably priced used parts.
I have a very good friend who is employed as a mech at a bodyshop in town and does a tone of work at his home shop. He is a Porshe racing mechanic who can repair anything but is super well versed in Euro cars. If you want his name and numvber email me @:
