Independent Repair in Calgary, AB 200

I have recently purchased an 82 240GL and am looking for a good place to get it fixed in Calgary, AB. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It has the usual old Volvo complaints, and currently the noisy blower is driving me to distraction.

Thanks.

I live in Red Deer, AB.

On the occasion that I have had to buy parts or get repairs in Calgary, I have found the Dealer - Valentine Volvo to be erasonable for parts.

My experience with Mr. Volvo left me wanting for better value. They were high priced.

Being located 1/2 way b/w Edmonton and Calgary, if I need service work, I head to Sandy Lane in Edmonton.

I have been using them for 11 years - the same faces are there - excellent knowledge. Less pricey than Weber Motors Volvo.

As far as suspension, etc. Sometimes it os better to source out local suspension specialty shops rather than a Volvo specialty shop. Ditto with exhaust systems.

Good luck with the hunt

Tony,
I also live in CowTown and own two old bricks: 1982 244DL 247 000 km B21A and a 1985 245 DL B23F. I am lucky enough to be able to perform most, if not all, of the required repairs on my Swedish Armada. Ther are two independents in town, both of whom have somewhat dodgy reputations for expensive service. Mr. Volvo Plus and Swany Volvo. Both shops know their stuff and can fix anything, but the also know that they have you over a barrel for repairs. I guarantee you that unless you specifically tell them what you want repaired, it will end up "runnin' ya" a pretty penny. Anybody I have talked to has never spent less than $300 as soon as they drove through the bay doors. Mr. Volvo and Swany have a great selection of genuine Volvo parts, and Swany has lots of not so reasonably priced used parts.

I have a very good friend who is employed as a mech at a bodyshop in town and does a tone of work at his home shop. He is a Porshe racing mechanic who can repair anything but is super well versed in Euro cars. If you want his name and numvber email me @:

How's Tonya doing? Isn't about time for you to be pushing a baby stroller around?

Both Tanya and Grace Cassandra are doing well in wonderful CowTown...pushing the buggy in malls only due to the -28C weather. She was born 12/21/03 7.5 lb and 20.5". We are having a blast being newbies in the parent department. While all of our friends are in whinny vans, we roll up in Wilhemina the Wonder Wagoon (1985 245 DL 431000 km - silver and mint) and smile all the way to the bank.

Thank you for the suggestions. Looks like I will soon be free of the howling blower...
