I just installed a new HD-50 Blaupunkt CD player with some 4" 2way Polk speakers in the front and 6.5" Polk components in the rear. It sounds really good but after my 45 minute drive to work the face plate is VERY HOT. I've checked all the connections twice. Even had a friend double check for me. What could it be. I thought it might be a floating ground - so I grounded the unit to the cars frame. Still gets hot. Any ideas?

I installed a deck in the top location and then mounted a fan that I yanked from a computer's power supply in the centre speaker hole in the dash. I hooked it up to a rocker switch(from a junked 240) beside the hazard switch. Does wonders for keeping things cool especially when the heater core is receiving full flow in the winter.

Well, I just recently bought a Clarion DB 328R wich I installet in the upper position just below the dashboard, and the very same thing is happening..
The front get VERY hot.. I´m thinking about installing a cpu-coller, it seems like o good thing, since I live in Sweden the heater is a quite essential item to use..

I think it's normal..installed blaupunkt CD units (same model) in both my 240 and wife's Ford Windstar 2 months ago...they BOTH seem to cook...CD's hot when removing them. CPU fan might be a good idea.

Not unusual for some aftermarket units for the faceplate to get very hot while in operation.

Blaupunkt makes great sounding decks with some of the most reolutionary features on the market...they have 1 major problem. Many of their models do not have heat sinks for their internal amplifiers. This is not an issue in most German cars where the heater stuffis mounted away from the radio. In most other cars, that's not the case. So, now you have a heat source, the amplifier, without the tplical cooling fins and it's near really stuff, the heater. The only place for the het to go is through the front and through the internal workings to get there. I think this is less of an issue inthe upper mounting position in the dash (in place of all those gauges) then it is in the lower position. The speaker hole in the center of the dash should provide a fair bit of ventilation and the heat should exit through there, heat rises, right? The lower postion, there are all the vents and the tranny hump. Now, I'm not certain your model is lacking cooling fins but tlk to your installer or sales men about this.

I have a Sony CD mounted in the lower position with some Clarion 6x9s in the back and some 30$ no-names in the front. Not the best fidelity, but when I put them in in Highschool I just wanted loud.

Anyway, I've experienced the same problem with the head unit getting hot, although not nearly that fast. Usually there are no symptoms, but in the summer on a long drive through GA or the Carolinas the unit actuall shuts off it gets so hot. I've no idea what the solution would be. All I can do is take the face off and let the sucker cool off while I listen to the wonderful sound of an 81 242 cruise along I-85 with the windows down.

Thanks, It's great to know I'm not alone. I'm going to try and put a small fan from a computer case behind the unit. We'll see if that helps.
