question about wiring harness 200

I see a lot of posts about changing the wiring harness on volvo cars. what is the reason for this? do the harnesses burn up or get chafed and short out? just wondering. oh also is this the engin compartment harness or the whole car harness?

It's the engine compartment harness. From about 1980 to about 1986 or 87 Volvo shipped their cars to the US with faulty engine harnesses. When they get hot, the insulation rots over time and crumbles off the wires. Electricity flows all over the place from one system to the next, etc, resulting in all sorts of weird electrical problems. Back then, it wasn't considered faulty. It was called "biodegradable" insulation.

From 1980 to 1987 Volvo used engine wiring harnesses that degraded with time and Temp. Dave's Volvo Wire Harness Web Page has all the info. Go to:
