Wouldn't it be great to have a dial in the cockpit that could dial up the boost! Somebody somewhere must have done this, any bricksters have any experience with this type of mod? I would assume that it wouldn't be that complicated... ...but that tells you what I know ;-)

Also, It's been mentioned that a turbo loses power at altitude.
Isn't 10 pounds of boost at sea level the same as at 10 pounds at 7K ft.?
Isn't the amount of fuel and air being forced into the engine a constant
(say 10psi= x fuel + x air) no matter what the outside pressure?
Does the amount of manifold vacuum change with altitude?

I want max power at altitude without overboosting at sea level!

Turbosmart makes this kind of wastegate control, but there are response issues with the hose length to get into the driver's compartment.

No to that. If the turbo could produce the same amont of boost at altitude (and it can't), the air pressure at higher altitudes is lower. Ten psi of boost at 14.7 psi (sea level pressure) is not the same as ten psi of boost at when ambient pressure is 10 psi.

In cars the term Manifold Vacuum is used. The term Manifold Pressure is a better term becuase it will tell you how hard your engine is working no matter what the altitude. Manifold Pressure does change with altitude. When you have a manifold pressure gauge on an engine, it shows lower pressure at altitude.

I'll preface my post by stating that when it comes to adjusting turbo pressure, I know just enough to be dangerous. But I'm learning a ton, thanks to this site, turbobricks, and others.

So... couldn't the Dawes Device (or something similar) be installed in the cockpit by re-routing the vacuume line through the firewall and to the dash?

Any input on why this is a rediculous idea is welcome.

The length of hose would cause problems i.e. spiking, lower boost levels.

The problem with boost at altitude is not the PSI, it's the O2 content in the air. At sea level, there is more oxygen per unit volume than there is at higher altitude. So if you are at 7000 feet, and you're pumping in 7 psi, you are getting way less oxygen than your car requires. The AMM measures just volumes of air, not oxygen. Since the oxygen is the combustion agent in your engine, the excess air does nothing for you. Thats why cars feel like they have less power higher up.
