IPD Sport springs 700

OK...I am sure you have talked about this before...But I am new so here it goes. I have a 1990 740...It has IPD sport springs. Borg Turbo Gas shocks..17" rims with 215/45/17 tires. Yes it rides like a buckboard. I expected that. I did not expect to not be able to align the car. Does anyone else have the problem of front end alignment with this or a simular setup.

We previously had the IPD Sport Springs and the Boge Turbo Gas shocks along with IPD's sway bars and TSW 17" Revos. I had the car aligned with no trouble.

After the wife ruined the engine oil pan on a piece of debris in the street, I removed the sport springs. The 17 inch tires eventually wore out and I went back to the stock tires. The car still aligns fine with the IPD sway bars and Boge Turbo Gas shocks.

What issue does the alignment shop have?

Curious about different levels of Buckboardness. Have you ridden in an 850 turbo with 16's? Mine's pretty stiff and I wonder if your setup is that bad. For my 88 745t I was thinking about Bilstein Touring shocks & IPD swaybars to begin with then maybe lowering springs. No plan at this point to go up from the 15" Dracos but I wouldn't go larger than 16 anyway.

Thanks,

The only problem with aligning the front of my car was the dumbass tire store knowitall (mechanic). When I asked how bad the toe and camber were, he said that the camber was off but there was no adjustment. I had to show him the strut tower adjustment and he shut up and had to set up the alignment again. They even had the nerve to try and charge the full price. I said that I would pay half since I just did the mechs job and they were about to rip me off. Beware of these people and learn about your own car and monitor them. Good Luck.

I don't think the 1990 740 has adjustments for chamber or caster.

H&R Triple C camber adjusters 700

H&R makes a nifty gadget -- if it works, that is. Quote from their web-site:

"Whenever you lower a vehicle's ride height, negative camber is increased-how much depends on the vehicle and the reduction in ride height. H&R's new Triple C camber adjusters are a simple, yet very effective means of removing excessive camber, adjusting your vehicle's camber settings, or even correcting small side-to-side camber variations for precise alignment.

Consisting of a pair of specially-designed bolts, H&R's patented Triple C camber adjusters replace the original upper fastening bolts on all McPherson strut applications. As the bolt is turned, a small cam eccentric alters the vehicle's camber, allowing adjustments from 0-3 degrees, positive or negative. Installation takes only minutes with readily-available hand tools, and benefits include increased tire life, improved tracking and the ability to dial in more camber for weekend track events.

Quite simply, H&R's Triple C camber adjusters are a great value. No other single suspension modification can yield such impressive results with such a small investment in time and money-and you can do it yourself."

It seems that 240s have a very different front as do the 740. Mine does not have the bolts shown. Attached to the bottom of the strut (which uses a cartridge) is the ball joint.

Very interesting! Seems like a great idea -- has anyone had experience with these?
