Sunroof 'parking' 700 1988

When using my sunroof there doesn't seem to be a park position. In my 850, when you hold the button to close it from the vent or retracted position it will stop when closed.

In my 745t, it will go through the closed position and move on. For example, if I have it in Vent and close it, it will close then continue on to retract into the roof. Should it stop when closed?

Yeah my 88 does this too. I've gotten pretty good at estimating how long to hold it once the panel closes.... for the price of a sunroof motor ($300 USED!) I can do this a LOT.

One just sold tonight for $20. Came out of a 58,000 mile 93 940. I saw it then ran out to my car to pull the cover off mine. After reading the FAQ about "rebuilding" the cam and microswitch portion of the motor assembly I'm going to give that a shot. If it doesn't work then I'll go the Ebay route.

Yes it should. The control for this is in the motor but overhaul is not an option. Replace with fully functional unit from junkyard or buy new unit from dealer. If you are interested, I might have one for you but I do live in Europe so ask around locally first. Replacement is dead easy, just remove plastic cover, remove unit and replace. Do not forget to zero out unit as described in FAQ... that could be it, actually. If your roof goes from say vent to open but it stops half way open and you need to let go of switch and then start again, you need to zero motor.

Thanks. I'll put it on my list of things to repair/replace. I could live with a crank just as easily and I understand they can be installed instead of the motor. I prefer to simplify things when I can.

Well, I went the other way and replaced my manual sunroof with a motorised one. I replaced the whole thing because mine was not good and I found a fairly cheap moonroof. At any rate, I actually have a manual set-up bar the different style plastic cover you will need. I suggest looking locally but if you need it, it's your for 15 bucks say plus postage to the States. They are a direct swap.
